We depart in the morning from Loutraki and after one hour we will be in Diakopto where from we are going to take the cog railway (Odontotos) to Kalavryta.
Cog railway (Odontotos) which links Kalavrita with Diakopto going through Vouraikos canyon, is one of the most beautiful natural sights in GREECE. It has been mentioned as the most beautiful train trip in Balkans. The journey takes one hour.
Kalavryta is a charming small town in north Peloponnese with a plenty of historical and religious sights.
Visit the monastery of mega Spileo built on the wild and steep side of a 120-metre high rocky hill there is a unique view from the monastery’s balcony and the famous monastery of Agia Lavra described as the symbolic birth-place of modern GREECE. It stands as one of the oldest monasteries in the Peloponnese. It is famously linked with the Greek war of independence , since it was here that the call for “Eleftheria I Thanatos” was first heard on 17 march 1821 , launching the revolution against the ottoman empire.
Finally, visit the unique lake of the caves a rare creation of nature. Apart from its labyrinth of corridors, its mysterious galleries and its strange stalactite formations, the “cave of the lakes” has something exclusively unique that does not exist in other well known caves.
Late in the afternoon return to Loutraki.
